On 22 February 2021, the Hermitage Theatre was the venue for Pianissimo, an evening of piano music devoted to young performers. A solo concert was given by Vladimir Petrov, a prize winner of international competitions in Russia, the USA and Mexico, holder of a grant from the Novy Imena (New Names) programme.
Critics have repeatedly noted the artistry and maturity of execution demonstrated by this young pianist who gave his first performance accompanied by a symphony orchestra at the age of ten. The programme for the recital included works by Chopin, Scriabin, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky.
The Pianissimo project was established in 2017 as a series of evenings of piano music each of which is devoted to two ideas. The first is to present to the public genuinely young pianists who are becoming stars right now, entering a time of real fame, both in their home country and internationally. Pianissimo features new names that arouse keen interest among critics and music lovers. None of those who have participated were over the age of 30 at the time. The second important idea of the project is to hold concerts in special historical venues. Pianissimo means concerts by young performers in historic settings full of cultural associations and artistic masterpieces.
Previously, as part of the Pianissimo project, highly successful recitals were given in the Hermitage’s Italian Skylight Hall by Alexander Malofeyev, Konstantin Yemelyanov, Abisal Gergiyev and Arseny Mun.
